WhatALi.st is a list engine completely managed by users. Thanks to new web 2.0 technologies like Ajax, Ruby on Rails, and typical social networking elements like Tagging, Voting and Commenting, lists and items are proposed and organized in a friendly and easy to use style.
A list is basically a collection of ordered items. You can create a list, other users may change the order of the items, others may want to specialize your work because they think they could do better. Once your list is submitted to the system, people can use it, add items, vote items, order them or ignore the information if its not interesting. Some example? A list can be a Top 100 the best Ruby on Rails tutorials, the best restaurants in Rome, the best Bordeaux wines of the year 2000.

A tag is a category, a label. The list creator can tag the list with one or more tags. Tags are used to search through the lists.

You can search your favorite list just selecting tags. The search experience starts from the homepage, were a tag-cloud presents the top 100 most popular tags. The search is detailed through the selection of other tags, at the and of the process the search range is restricted and you can find the queried resource.
Lists are ordered and proposed on a relevance base. Lists ranking is based on a weighted algorithm mixing three elements: number of views, number of elements, and votes.
Items are ordered through votes. Items in better position are the ones most voted and considered most relevant by the community.
You can vote a list just reordering the items with drag-and-drop and confirm the new order. A vote on a item depends on the new order proposed.
You can add new elements to the lists, insert descriptions and suggest reference links, than you can vote the items just reordering them with the drag-and-drop and confirm the new order.
In the Bookmark section you can save your preferred lists, just use the button Add this list to Bookmarks. In the Voted section the application saves lists you have already voted.
WhatALi.st can easily share its content with Blogs and External Applications. Every list and every item has its own unique permalink. You have to click on the parmalink, copy it, and paste in your email, favourite Blog or Social Application.
